Car Bumper Gripper (EOAT) made from PreciGrip

Car - Bumper removal – the supreme discipline in gripper design

The task
Removing a bumper from the injection mould is one of the supreme disciplines in gripper design: a large, thin-walled part, a class-A visible surface and a tight time window in which the gripper must enter the open mould, take over the part securely and retract again. Every mistake shows on the finished part.

Two types of removal
Depending on mould and part, removal takes place from the core side or from the cavity side – resulting in two fundamentally different gripping concepts.

Removal from the outside – gripping the visible side
The gripper acts directly on the paintable visible surface. Special suction cups leave no marks and adapt to the shape of the part. They are distributed so that holding forces spread evenly across the surface and the part does not deform when pulled off.

Removal from the inside – gripping tongs with stroke
When removing from the rear, gripping tongs with single or double stroke are used. They grip the inside or the edges and pull the bumper out of the mould in a controlled manner. The double stroke first demoulds the part and then guides it out of the mould area in a second movement – even where space between the mould halves is tight.

Standard components from the modular system
We build both concepts from standard components of the PreciGrip modular system. This means short delivery times, as the components are in stock, easy adaptation to part changes and fast spare-parts supply for many years. Special parts are manufactured in-house.

More than just removal
A bumper gripper usually takes on further tasks in the same movement: presence and position checks, processing of the part and sprue trimming directly on the gripper. Pure removal thus becomes a complete work step; the bumper leaves the cell ready for further processing.
